THE International Amateur Athletic Federation world council yesterday prevented Katrin Krabbe from defending her 100m and 200m titles in the world championships in Stuttgart in August by delaying a decision on whether a drug ban against her and her German team-mates Gritte Breur and Manula Derr should be lifted. The council has called for more information on whether the use of Clenbuterol, an anabolic agent that the three tested positive for last year, was to gain an unfair advantage.

THE International Amateur Athletic Federation yesterday refused to accept Kenya's decision to lift a ban on John Ngugi, who refused to take a drugs test, and ordered the country's federation to stop him from running.
