Peter Knowles, the 24-year-old from Maidstone, has been selected to play for England in place of the injured Darren Hall in the European Championships, starting in 's-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands, on Sunday. Hall, the England No 1, dropped out on Wednesday because of back trouble, and Knowles will join Anders Nielsen of Wimbledon, Steve Butler of Coventry, and Colin Haughton of Denton, Manchester, in the men's singles event.
