Major League owners approved the sale of the Los Angeles Dodgers to Rupert Murdoch yesterday. No figure was announced but it was believed to around $350m (pounds 210m).

Cablevision, owner of the NBA's New York Knicks and the NHL's New York Rangers, has begun discussions with the New York Yankees' owner, George Steinbrenner, about buying the club.
