THE New York Mets, languishing at the bottom of the National League East, have sacked their manager Jeff Torborg and replaced him with Dallas Green, 59, the former manager of the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees. Green's contract runs through 1995. The Mets have won only five of their last 23 games. 'We couldn't wait any longer to make a change,' Al Harazin, the Mets general manager, said. 'We simply had to turn the club around and become the kind of club we had been in the 1980s.'
