Michelle Sutcliffe, a 32-year-old mother-of-two from Leeds, has become the second woman to be granted a licence by the British Boxing Board of Control. The decision for Sutcliffe, a light-flyweight, comes six months after Jane Couch's legal victory to become the first licensed woman professional boxer.

Shea Neary will make the delayed fifth defence of his World Boxing Union light-welterweight title against America's Mike Griffith at Dublin's National Stadium on 19 June. The bout was originally due to take place on 17 April, but Neary had to withdraw after injuring a hand in training.

Takeo Imaoka of Japan defended his Orient-Pacific featherweight title yesterday by knocking out Noel Pan of the Philippines in the eighth round of a scheduled 12-round bout.
