Damaen Kelly, Ulster's World Boxing Association inter-continental champion, is to challenge the Russian Alexander Mahmutov for his European flyweight title at the Hillsborough Leisure Centre in Sheffield on 12 February.

Kostya Tszyu, Australia's World Boxing Council super-lightweight champion, will defend his title against the Mexican Ahmed Santos in Connecticut on 12 February.

Ian Botham has been voted as favourite player of the century, in a poll by The Cricketer magazine. Botham received twice as many votes as second- placed Denis Compton. The ballot was for the readers' favourite player rather than just the most-gifted.
