Julio Cesar Chavez has been forced to postpone his World Boxing Council light-welterweight title fight against fellow Mexican Miguel Angel Gonzalez because he needs surgery on his elbow. The two men were due to have fought for the title left vacant by American Oscar de la Hoya on 25 October.

Edgar Ruiz, of Mexico, unanimously outpointed Ricky Hesia, of California, in a 10-round welterweight bout in California on Monday night.

Prince Naseem Hamed is being lined up to make his American debut on 16 December. Kevin Kelley, the former world champion, is the prospective opponent for the World Boxing Organisation featherweight holder on the pre-Christmas Madison Square Garden promotion.
