SOUTH KOREA'S Byun Jong-il yesterday appealed against a split decision which cost him his World Boxing Council bantamweight title against Yasui Yakushiji, of Japan, on 23 December. Byun submitted tapes of the 12-round fight in Nagoya to the WBC, claiming two of the judges scored the bout incorrectly. If the appeal succeeds, he would get a rematch after Yakushiji's first defence.
