Warwickshire are to offer Bob Cottam, the England assistant coach, new terms to return to Edgbaston as bowling coach for a third season. The general committee recommended his re-engagement this week and the county will talk to him in Australia before the Ashes series. Warwickshire are awaiting confirmation of Allan Donald's return next summer as their overseas player.

Channel 4 have signed up Mark Nicholas, the former Hampshire and England A captain, to front their Test and domestic coverage from next year. He joins Channel 4 after three years with Sky Sports.

The former India captain, Ghulam Ahmed, has died at his home in Hyderabad. He was 76. Ahmed, an off-spinner, took 68 wickets in his 22 Tests.
