Craig McMillan and Chris Cairns rescued New Zealand today from the prospect of defeat and scored half-centuries to lead them to a four-wicket victory over India in the second Test at the Basin Reserve, in Wellington. The Kiwis resumed at 73 for 4 on the final morning and quickly lost Paul Wiseman for a duck before McMillan and Cairns laid the foundation for success. New Zealand lead the three-Test series 1-0 after the first Test was washed out without a ball being bowled. The final Test in Hamilton starts on 2 January.
