SUNIL GAVASKAR has accepted honorary life membership of MCC - three years after turning down the honour because of a dispute with a Lord's gateman. Gavaskar, the former Indian captain, was one of nine new life members announced yesterday.

BAIN CLARKSON TROPHY (One-day): Taunton: Warwickshire 273 for 8 (R G Twose 84); Somerset 276 for 7 (V Clarke 73, A Payne 79). Somerset won by three wickets. (Northampton): Hampshire 293 for 9 (R M F Cox 127, J S Laney 83; M N Bowen 4-41, J G Hughes 4-60); Northamptonshire 219. Hampshire won by 74 runs. Bingley: Lancashire 308 for 6 (J Crawley 93, M Harvey 66, R Irani 56); Yorkshire 309 for 8 (D Byas 106, S A Kellett 57). Yorkshire won by two wickets.
