THE Dutchman Adrianus Van Troost will not be eligible for England's Test team until 1998. The fast bowler who plays for Somerset as a non-overseas player had been hoping that his qualification period would be cut from seven years to four, but the Test and County Cricket Board's registration committee have ruled that there are no grounds for special dispensation.

ALLAN DONALD was yesterday cleared to play for Warwickshire in the NatWest Trophy quarter-final against Yorkshire at Headingley on 27 July. The South African Board of Control have approved the county's request to delay his appearance at their Test squad's training camp. Donald will fly home after the Headingley match to prepare for a tour to Sri Lanka.

TOUR MATCH (Kurunegala, Sri Lanka, final day of three): India 342 for 6 dec (M Azharuddin 100, K S More 60no, M Prabhakar 53) and 148 for 1 (N S Sidhu 66no; P K Amre 70no); Sri Lanka Board XI 415 (H P Tillakaratne 101, S T Jayasuriya 151, R S Kalpage 69no; Venkatapathy Raju 101-4). Match drawn.
