RUMESH RATNAYAKE, the Sri Lankan fast bowler, flew to India yesterday to replace the injured batsman, Asanka Gurusinha, in his country's squad for next week's five-nation one-day tournament. Gurusinha flew home on Thursday with a groin injury while Ratnayake, 29, has been out of international cricket since an operation on his bowling arm 18 months ago.

DAMIEN MARTYN, the Australian Test batsman, scored his first century of the summer as Western Australia declared at 473 for 5 on yesterday's second day of a Sheffield Shield match in Hobart. He reached his century in 262 minutes with seven fours and a five, but departed the following ball when he edged the off-spinner, Steve Herzberg, behind the wicket to Mark Atkinson.
