MANCHESTER has been chosen to host track events for the 1996 World Championships, a spokesman for the International Cycling Union said in Oslo yesterday.

ALBERTO VOLPI, of Italy, has been dropped from the national team for the Oslo world road-race championships for a positive drug test after winning a race in Britain this month. His coach, Alfredo Martini, said Volpi was excluded after testing positive when he won the Leeds Classic World Cup race on 15 August.
