Allan Johnston has turned down a third month on loan with Birmingham and returned to Sunderland. The Scottish international winger is currently out of favour with the Sunderland manager Peter Reid due to his refusal to sign a new contract.

Marco Almeida has left Southampton and returned home to Sporting Lisbon after failing to persuade manager Dave Jones to sign him on a permanent basis. The 21-year-old Portuguese defender joined Saints on loan for the season in August but has only played for 19 minutes.
