The Brazil and Internazionale striker Ronaldo yesterday won the Fifa World Player of the Year to become the first player to win it twice since its inception in 1991. His compatriot Roberto Carlos, of Real Madrid, was second while Arsenal's Dennis Bergkamp and Juventus's French midfielder Zinedine Zidane were joint third.
