The Rochdale goalkeeper Steve Bywater, 16, has signed for West Ham on loan until the end of the season with a view to a permanent transfer. The England Under-18 international played a trial game for the Hammers' reserves three weeks ago and impressed manager Harry Redknapp despite being sent off.

The UniBond League Premier Division club Guiseley have appointed their top scorer, the former Leeds United striker Bobby Davison, as their new player-manager. He replaces Steve Richards, who resigned on Monday.
