Hartlepool United are lining up a bid to resurrect Peter Beardsley's playing career. The former England international has been contacted by the Victoria Park club after being released by Kevin Keegan's Fulham at the beginning of the month.

Burnley have broken their transfer record - spending pounds 750,000 - to re- sign their former defender Steve Davis from Luton Town.

Wigan have sold Leigh Jenkinson to Hearts for pounds 50,000. The former Coventry winger, 29, joined Wigan from St Johnstone on a free transfer under the Bosman ruling at the start of this season but only started six games for the Second Division club. Hearts have also signed Derek Lilley, the former Morton striker, on loan from Leeds United.
