The South African Football Federation is considering three more candidates for the role of national coach. They are the former Dutch international Ruud Krol, the present coach of the South African club Manning Rangers, Gordon Igesund, and Carlos Alberto Parreira, Brazil's 1994 World Cup-winning coach. A final decision is expected next week.

The Canadian international defender Colin Miller has left Ayr United to become the new player-manager of Hamilton Academical in succession to Sandy Clark, who is now in charge of St Johnstone.

Arie Haan, Anderlecht's Dutch coach, left by mutual consent yesterday following the club's dreadful start to the Belgian season, and a 2-0 home defeat by the Swiss side, Grasshopper Zurich, in the Uefa Cup on Wednesday.

The Charlton defender Stuart Balmer is set to join Wigan for pounds 200,000 today.

TRANSFERS: Kevin Betsy (defender) Woking to Fulham (pounds 80,000); Clemens Zwijnenberg (defender) Aalborg (Den) to Bristol City (loan); William Huck (midfielder) Marseilles to Arsenal (trial); Tony Dobson (defender) West Bromwich to Northampton (free); Paul Emblen (forward) Charlton to Wycombe (pounds 90,000).
