ANDREI KANCHELSKIS, the Manchester United winger, has not been included in a preliminary pool of players from which Russia's World Cup squad will be chosen. Kanchelskis and other foreign-based players, including Igor Shalimov of Internazionale and Sergei Kiriakov of Karlsruhe, have called for the dismissal of the national coach, Pavel Sadyrin. They failed to meet a deadline of last Friday, set by the Russian federation, to back the coach.

BOB HOUGHTON, the former Bristol City manager and Malmo coach, has taken charge of the Swiss club, FC Zurich.
