CHRIS WADDLE, who played for Marseille for three seasons from 1989 to 92, is wanted by Marseille's near neighbours, Martigues. Waddle has two years of his contract still remaining with Sheffield Wednesday, but he has recently said that he would be tempted by another spell in France.

GARY MEGSON, the Norwich midfield player, has retired to concentrate on his role as assistant manager at Carrow Road.

ANDERSON DA SILVA, omitted from Brazil's World Cup squad, has signed a five-year contract with the French club, Monaco.

TRANSFER: Steve Forbes, defender, Sittingbourne to Millwall, pounds 50,000.
