LAWRIE SANCHEZ, the former Wimbledon player, has been appointed player-manager of Sligo Rovers. The 34-year-old will lead the Bord Gais League of Ireland club against Club Bruges in the first round of the European Cup-Winners' Cup this month. He succeeds Willie McStay, now youth-team coach at Celtic.
