JOHN FASHANU may learn tomorrow whether he will face Football Association action over an incident which left Tottenham captain Gary Mabbutt with a fractured skull.

DIEGO MARADONA yesterday said he might not be fit enough to play in next summer's World Cup finals. The Argentinian, who made a comeback to the international scene this year, complained that his 33-year-old body was finding it harder to shrug off injuries. 'I'm 33. What do you want? That I continue playing until I'm 50? I'm getting on and the idea of picking up injuries really scares me,' he said.

TORBEN FRANK, the Denmark forward, is under investigation for alleged fraud in connection with his transfer from Lyngby to the French club, Lyon.

CHRISTOPH DAUM, the Stuttgart coach, is to quit the club later this month. Daum, who has been in charge for three seasons, announced yesterday that he would step down at the Bundesliga winter break on 10 December after a series of bad results. Daum led Stuttgart to the German title in 1991 but says he took his decision after a six-month press campaign against him. Stuttgart are currently 14th in the table, four points off the bottom.
