DAVID KELLY, the Republic of Ireland international striker, has joined Wolverhampton Wanderers from Newcastle United for pounds 750,000. The 27-year- old former Walsall, West Ham and Leicester player scored 28 goals for the Magpies last season.

SCOTLAND beat Mexico 2-0 in Six- Fours-la-Plage, France, to reach the semi-finals of the Toulon Under-21 tournament. Oldham's Paul Bernard and Christian Dailly of Dundee United scored the goals. France also qualified, as the Group A winners.

DUNFERMLINE ATHLETIC have appointed a former player, Bert Paton, as their new manager. His assistant will be Dick Campbell, a former manager of Cowdenbeath. They replace Jocky Scott and Gordon Wallace, dismissed after last term's unsuccessful First Division promotion campaign.
