Luboslav Penev, Valencia's Bulgarian international striker, has signed a two-year contract for Atletico Madrid. Penev returned to the Valencia team in the middle of last season, after several months' treatment for testicular cancer.

The German international striker Heiko Herrlich has taken his club, Borussia Monchengladbach, to court in order to gain permission to join the Bundesliga champions, Borussia Dortmund.
