KENNY SWAIN, the Crewe Alexandra assistant manager and former Chelsea, Aston Villa and Portsmouth full-back, has been appointed manager of Wigan Athletic. He succeeds Dave Philpotts, who was installed as caretaker-manager after the dismissal of Bryan Hamilton in March.
