THE British Ice Hockey Association will introduce wage-capping next season, and clubs which exceed their maximum total (probably pounds 150,000 a year) are likely to be fined and have points deducted. Next season, the Premier Division will comprise 12 teams with Peterborough Pirates and Durham Wasps, who originally lost their places to Sheffield Steelers and Basingstoke Beavers, filling the extra two places.

NHL STANLEY CUP Second-round play-off: Patrick Division: Pittsburgh Penguins 6 NY Islanders 3 (Pittsburgh lead best-of-seven series 3-2).
