Turkey will apply to be candidates to stage the 2008 Summer Olympics, thier Olympic Committee announced yesterday.

Hermann Panzo, the Olympic sprinter who won a bronze medal as part of the French 100m relay team in the 1980 Games in Moscow, has died after a heart attack at the age of 41.
