Keith Wood, the Lions and Ireland hooker, has been released by Harlequins for one season and will be contracted to the Irish Rugby Football Union until June 2000. The IRFU said Wood would be available to Munster and would join Garryowen.

Glasgow Caledonians will play Ulster, the European champions, in a friendly in Stranraer on 31 July.

Bath have signed the New Zealand-born prop Matt Filipo from Premiership Two club Fylde.
