Newcastle's manager Rob Andrew will return to his old ground at Sudbury for the first time since his dismissal by Wasps to play in a past versus present match for Buster White's Testimonial on Monday. In the side too are ex-Wasps Inga Tuigamala and Steve Bates, also on the books of the new champions.

Leicester's Neil Back and Will Greenwood have won two of the top honours in the Rugby Football Union's 1997/98 awards. Back has been named player of the year, while Greenwood has been chosen as the best debutant. Bath's Matt Perry won the young player of the year award.

Zimbabwe's Sports Commission has ordered an inquiry into alleged racism in the Zimbabwe Rugby Union. McLoud Chaora, the Commission director general, is to head the inquiry following allegations of racism against the Union by the national rugby coach, the South African John Knox.
