Lawrence Dallaglio, the England and Wasps captain, has been voted Personality of the Year by the Rugby Writers' Club. He is the first Englishman to win the award since Ben Clarke in 1993.

Mark Denney, the Cambridge University centre, is to leave the Allied Dunbar Premiership club Bristol. Denney, 22, has played 59 senior games for Bristol since making his debut in February 1994, but has found the distance from Cambridge "impractical".

Lewis Capes, son of the former international shotputter Geoff Capes, is making the switch from American football to rugby union. Capes, 26, yesterday joined the Allied Dunbar Premiership One side Leicester Tigers on a two-year contract from London Monarchs for an undisclosed sum.
