Chris Law opened his defence of the third Hoya Lymington Cup with four wins but the 45-year-old world-ranked No 5 then went down to the 18-year-old, 107th ranked, James Spithill. He also lost the final match of the day in blustery 25-knot winds to Britain's up and coming Andy Green as New Zealand's Gavin Brady took a 6-0 lead.
Belgium, Scandinavia, Spain, and the Netherlands with two teams, will contest the Commodores' Cup against two teams each from England and Scotland off Cowes in July.
