JOHN BERTRAND, who skippered Australia II to victory in the 1983 America's Cup off Newport, Rhode Island, ending a 132-year United States grip on the trophy, has signed up the designers behind America3 which successfully defended the Cup last year. Bertrand's campaign is based on designing and building a technologically superior yacht that will be as big a breakthrough as the winged keel, designed by the late Ben Lexcen, which carried the Australians to victory 10 years ago. The next cup series is due to start in May 1995 off San Diego.
