JENNIFER CAPRIATI has agreed to undergo a 12-month monitoring programme of counselling and community service, following her arrest at a Miami hotel for possessing marijuana. If Capriati completes the programme satisfactorily, the charge of possession would be dropped.

ANDREI MEDVEDEV, seeded No 9 for Wimbledon, was beaten 6-2, 7-6 in the first round of the Halle men's grass-court tournament yesterday by the German Marc Goellner.
