THE former teenage prodigy, Tracy Austin, making a comeback aged 30, beat the 12th seed, Gigi Fernandez, in the first round of the Los Angeles women's tournament yesterday. Austin, who left the tour in 1983 after serious back and neck problems, was playing in her third tournament this year after only two tour matches since 1984. Victory ensured a ranking in the top 150.
