Sports Letter: Grave problem

Sir: The only headache England has is not "batting beyond belief" (David Llewellyn, 23 Aug) but chairman of selectors, David Graveney and his colleagues. A third-rate player, he continues the line of past chairmen who cannot see the wood for the trees.

He admits that he and his fellow selectors face a tough task choosing a party for the tour of South Africa and Zimbabwe. I say let's get rid of all those old school tie connections in the MCC set-up and start again. Send the current England Under-19 team.
