Sir: With three years before our next competitive match, the FA now have the opportunity to appoint a young manager who can build a young side in his own style. Glenn Hoddle, who has had more managerial experience than Franz Beckenbauer did when he managed the World Cup winners in 1990, would be the right choice.

Hoddle, given a choice of players he hasn't got at Chelsea, would play quality football that brings success at international level.
