Sir: Most golfing events, apart from the Ryder Cup, I find boring to watch for any length of time, but not this year's Open.
My congratulations to the R&A, and especially to John Philp, the links superintendent at Carnoustie, for this year's entertainment. What a pleasure to watch professionals forced to contend with real difficulties. A great change from observing only how much below par they can attain on featureless courses.
Let us have more of the same.
