Sir: 'We have to ask what is more important, the life of a human being or trees', said Michael Schumacher about the Monza grand prix (2 July).

No one is forced to drive racing cars. The proper question is 'what is more important, trees that have taken decades to mature and which beautify their location 365 days a year or a motor race that takes place once a year?'
