Sir: I would be delighted to respond to Barbara Brown's request for letters on your cricket correspondent, Martin Johnson. I think he is appalling. I am sick to death of wading through his feeble puns and weak jokes in an attempt (often in vain) to find out what happened in the match. I am quite amazed that Ms Brown should compare him to John Arlott, whose writing was distinguished by a deep knowledge of the game and a feel for the English language. To put Martin Johnson's juvenile irritations in the same league is an insult. Thank goodness for Glenn Moore's straightforward and intelligent analysis.
Yours sincerely,
JOHN GIBSON
