Sports Letters: Olympic gains

Sir: Now that an unhealthy proportion of IOC delegates have been discredited by allegations of corruption, it is surely time for common sense to prevail and for the Olympic Games to return to their Greek heritage on a permanent basis.

The main benefit would be that voting for host cities would no longer be necessary. Imagine the cost-saving of not having to employ those 100- plus delegates to travel around the world, coupled with the financial advantages of not having to build new facilities each time the Games are held. These funds could be channelled instead into the grass-roots of sport again, back supporting athletes rather than corrupt administrators.
