Sports Letters: Time for tough action

Sir: I was truly shocked to see and read of the horrid injury which P de Glanville sustained in the recent rugby match between the All Blacks and the S W Division. And I am nearly as shocked to learn that the English Rugby Union are apparently satisfied with a proffered apology from the tourists' management.

It is time the game's regulators took a firm hold of the actions necessary to prevent such ridiculous and savage behaviour as stamping, even if such action involves criminal proceedings, and even sudden cessation of tours.

As an ex-player of many years, and one who revelled in the glory, speed and toughness of the game, my appetite for watching the All Blacks is finally dulled.

Yours sincerely,

DR ROY ADAMS
