Sports Listings: Plan Ahead - Panasonic AAA Championships
THIS year's Panasonic AAA Championships take place at the Alexander Stadium, Birmingham, on Friday and Saturday, 16 and 17 July and will serve as the trial for the World Championships in Germany in August. The meeting is open to elite athletes and all the top British competitors, such as Sally Gunnell, Linford Christie, John Regis and Roger Black, are expected to take part.
The first British athlete home in each event automatically gains a place for Stuttgart, provided the qualifying standard or distance has been met. The two remaining discretionary places will be announced when the selectors name the British team after the championships. The 3,000m for women and the 10,000m for men and women have already been run, but at Birmingham all other track and field events will be held.
There are plenty of seats available for the Friday with a rover ticket covering the three stands and the open terrace. Tickets, however, are selling fast for the Saturday, though there are seats in all stands and the terrace. There is ample parking around the stadium. Camping and caravan parking are also available, with shower and toilet facilities on site. Contact Alexander Stadium to book.
