Britain stages the 13th round of the World Superbike Championship at Donington Park this weekend and for Carl Fogarty, the Blackburn rider, victory would bring him closer to the title, yet to be won by a Briton. Fogarty is nine points adrift of the championship leader, Scott Russell, of the United States, but his record at Donington is impressive. Four wins in this 750-1,000cc category and the lap record on his previous appearance in the British Championship series in June should give Fogarty the confidence to gain points on Russell going into the two remaining rounds after Donington. Qualifying for Sunday's championship starts today.

How to get there: Donington Park, Castle Donington, Derby, is three miles from junctions 23A/24 of M1/M42/A42. Admission: today (qualifying, 1pm) pounds 3 adults, children 15 and under free; tomorrow (qualifying, 9.20am) pounds 7, free; Sunday (warm-up 9.15am, World Championship races at noon and 3.30pm, with three support races) pounds 15, free.
