Sports Listings: This Weekend: Fencing - British epee championships, Hendon
The British epee championships at the Peel Centre, Hendon Police College, this weekend is the final chance for Britain's men to prepare for the Challenge Martini, the World Cup event, in London on 5 March. Niki Olympitis, of the Lansdowne Club in London, will look for a good result to secure his place in the British squad for the World championships in July in Athens where he should feel at home. He can expect tough opposition, though, from the British and Martini No 1 Steven Paul, who dominates the weapon. In the women's championship, the title-holder, Nicola Cain, of Plymouth, will have difficulty retaining the trophy in the largest entry for many years.
How to get there: Peel Centre, Aerodrome Road, Hendon, London NW9. Underground: Colindale or Hendon Central (Northern line). The individual competition finishes tomorrow, with the team event on Sunday. Spectating is free, with fencing starting at 9.30am on both days.
