Sports Listings: This Weekend / Table Tennis: Cleveland Five Star Open, Thornaby
Chen Xinhua, the English national champion, completes a busy week when he plays at the Cleveland Five Star Open championships at Thornaby this weekend. The No 1 seed, however, remains favourite for the Thornaby event, which starts tomorrow. The Championships are the first open at which the new glue regulation will apply. The International Table Tennis Federation has introduced the rule to prohibit use of special glues by players to enhance the speed of the ball off their bat rubbers. The rule change should not affect Chen or the No 2 seed, Matthew Syed, as their style is mainly defensive.
