CASSIE JACKMAN, the fourth-seeded former world junior champion from Norfolk, reached the quarter-finals of the World Open with a straight games victory over Vicki Cardwell, the former world champion from Australia, increasing belief yesterday that she carries the best home hopes of having a finalist on Sunday, writes Richard Eaton from St Peter Port, Guernsey.
Jackman's draw is the best of the leading English players and her third-round form looked encouraging, even though her 9-4, 9-4, 9-0 win against Cardwell lasted less than half an hour.
Jackman today plays another Australian, the sixth- seeded Carol Owens, while Fiona Geaves meets Liz Irving, the second-seeded Australian who beat the giant killer of the day before, Linda Charman, the England No 7.
