THE former world champion Jansher Khan, of Pakistan, had to dig deep to get the better of Simon Parke in a high-quality final of the Equitable Life Super Series at the Galleria Outlet Centre, Hatfield yesterday.

Jansher, 28, eventually beat the British champion 15-12, 13-15, 15-11, 15-10 in 80 minutes and now believes he can win every major title in the coming year. However, he paid handsome tribute to his 25-year-old opponent from Nottingham, saying: "He has never played that well against me before. With that level of speed and play, he is definitely one of the major challengers now."

Parke, who recovered from surgery and chemotherapy early last year for testicular cancer, only got back to full fitness before Christmas. "It is a bit frustrating when you come up against Jansher playing as well as he did today," he said.
