Sri Lanka's three-day match in Chandigarh against the Ranji Trophy champions, Punjab, ended in a draw. That was a foregone conclusion after the Sri Lankans, preparing for the third Test against India starting in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, opted for badly needed batting practice on the final day after Punjab declared at their overnight score of 234 for 3, still trailing by 107. The tourists then batted until 30 minutes before tea to make 187 for 5 in their second innings. The veteran batsman Kepler Wessels has recovered from knee and hand injuries and will resume the captaincy of South Africa for their home Test series against Australia.
