ENGLAND'S men retained their team title at the Commonwealth Championships with a 5-3 victory over Canada, but the women were runners-up after a 3-1 defeat to the top-seeded title holders, Hong Kong, here yesterday, writes James Leigh from Hyderabad, India.
England's victory was secured by Andrew Eden's 21-13, 21-18 victory over Joe Ng. The former Commonwealth champion, Alan Cooke, won twice and led 19-17 against Johnny Huang before losing 21-18, 12-21, 21-19.
For England's women, Lisa Lomas and Andrea Holt won the doubles, 14-21, 21-18, 21-15 over the world No 23, Chan Tan Lui, and the world No 8, Chai Powa.
